Guided tour of the “Hugo decorator | Victor Hugo houses” exhibition
Hugo decorator exhibition,
Until April 26, 2026,
Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm.
The exhibition Hugo Decorator, Victor Hugo’s House reveals a little-known but nonetheless fascinating facet of the artist’s creativity: that of decorator. The exhibition explores the artist’s decorative universe, between graphic imagination, obsession with the object and the invention of space as a total work of art. From his Parisian interiors to the fabulous Hauteville House, visitors will discover how Victor Hugo thought of decor as an extension of his spirit and poetry, creating an abundance of ambiances where walls, floors and ceilings become the medium of creation.
A decorator in the full sense of the term, and even a designer, Victor Hugo remained a poet, bringing to his creations his knowledge of light, materials and color, as well as his philosophy, beliefs, memory and imagination.
