The gallery

Representing some twenty of the most influential Quebec and Canadian artists of their generation, Chiguer art contemporain works to promote Quebec and Canadian art, both nationally and internationally.

By supporting experimentation and research, the gallery highlights sensitive, committed and innovative practices in a wide variety of media.

Founded in Quebec City ten years ago as Galerie 3, the gallery adopted its current identity in 2022 and opened a second space in Montreal, in the Belgo building in the heart of downtown. Now present in both these cultural hubs, it is run by its founder, Abdelilah Chiguer, a figure who has been committed to promoting contemporary Canadian art for over a decade.

The project

For several years, Eveline Boulva has been exploring the intersection between new technologies and one of the oldest artistic gestures: drawing a line. At first glance, her works appear to be photographs, but upon closer inspection, one discovers the materiality of drawing.

Her process combines photographic documentation, computer modelling and manual execution. The images captured during field research become the starting point for rigorous digital work: vector sketches, partial automation of the drawing, then direct interventions with graphite, watercolour or gouache. This alliance between machine and hand allows Boulva to circumvent the rigidity of digital technology, allowing unexpected events and visual ‘bugs’ to emerge, which she deliberately incorporates.
