Galerie Papillon

Sector General

Presentation of the gallery

Galerie Papillon is renowned for its cutting-edge programming and distinctive editorial line. It brings together international artists united by a common sensibility: poetry, irony, audacity and sometimes anti-conformism. The gallery offers them a vast 250 m2 courtyard exhibition space in the Marais district, a stone's throw from the Centre Pompidou. On the second floor, shows are presented in a more intimate space, close to the collector's apartment.
Founded in 1989 by Claudine Papillon, the gallery has worked with renowned artists such as Polke, Roth and Craig-Martin, as well as Hreinn Fridfinnsson and Erik Dietman, whose Estates it now represents.
Associate since 2007, Marion Papillon now runs the gallery. She pursues a long-term relationship with the artists and supports the French and international scene, both emerging and established. Marion Papillon founded Paris Galerie Weekend in 2014. She was also president of the Comité Professionnel des Galeries d'Art from 2020 to 2025, after serving as vice-president from 2014 to 2019.
Together, Marion and Claudine unite two generations around the same values and a shared commitment.

Présentation de l'artiste en focus

"A gifted artist, a pinch of outrageousness, lots of humor and the spark of magic" wrote Camille Morineau in 2020. To celebrate 20 years of collaboration with Frédérique Loutz, we invite you to explore this rich body of work in the field of drawing. From early works (from 2000 onwards), in the "Drawing of Lots" or "Grammaire fatale" series, to more recent creations, also in XXL format, all recall the artist's wry, grimacing, joyful and wildly inventive art, as she explores the multiple possibilities of drawing: ink, watercolor, colored pencil... Her drawings reveal delicious rebus on paper, as well as a play on images and collages. "I like it when drawing shakes things up, shakes me up" says Frédérique Loutz, and so do we!
