Presentation of the gallery
Since 2006, the Olivier Waltman Gallery has been supporting international contemporary artists working in a variety of media, from painting and photography to sculpture, drawing, digital art and installation. It maintains a balance between emerging talents and established figures, emphasizing the singularity of their approaches and the quality of the dialogue between works, disciplines, territories and generations. Its project aims to raise the profile of contemporary creation through exhibitions at its space in the Marais district and numerous off-site projects: residencies in Miami, collaborations with cultural institutions or interventions in heritage sites. These initiatives offer artists new opportunities to meet the public and create specific works. The gallery builds lasting relationships between artists, collectors, institutions and the public. Active on the international scene via fairs and a significant editorial output, the gallery is supported by the commitment of Olivier Waltman, member of the Comité Professionnel des Galeries d'Art, the Paris Gallery Weekend committee and the Conseil des Amis de la MEP.
Présentation du projet
For Cristina Escobar, drawing is a universal language in which personal experience, collective memory and social and political issues are interwoven. Her work questions history, geopolitics and exile, exploring notions of mobility and borders.
Using graphite or BIC pen, on paper or textile, the Cuban artist traces the exile paths of people she has met in the course of her research. In the Versos libres series, she draws scenes of migration on original editions of José Marti's poems. In this way, line becomes imprint: it marks and erases not only geographical, but also social and cultural boundaries, revealing our invisible roots and shared humanity.
