Presentation of the gallery
The gallery, founded in 1991, focuses on art that reflects the artist's personal commitment. Drawing occupies a prominent place, as it is here that concepts and ideas take shape. Thanks to the informal, direct nature of drawing, the artist is able to express himself fully. The paintings exhibited are almost always figurative, and here too, the personal dimension is important, as is individuality and originality. Three-dimensional works are characterized by an assertive personal language or experiments with space and natural processes. The gallery is also aware that it must be a place of experimentation. At least once a year, an artist presents an installation or project.
Présentation du projet
Black Sun is a project Ruben Bellinkx (1975) realized in 2022, based on earlier drawings and watercolours that resulted in a film for which he built a live size bedroom. It consits of two versions in which we see two kinds of strange intruders visit the same room. The first projection captures a flock of birds that, having left their natural habitat, enter a sterile bedroom. In the second projection, we see a swarm of drones occupy the same room. The softer lighting tells us that it’s a different time of day to the other visit. But just like the birds, these unmanned aerial devices also explore the bedroom.
The two projections mirror and question each other on different levels. They interrogate the complex relationship between nature and technology, object and subject, order and chaos.
