Presentation of the gallery

Opened in September 1986 with an exhibition by François Morellet, Galerie Oniris has become one of Brittany's leading contemporary art venues. In 2026, Galerie Oniris will celebrate its 40th anniversary!

Under the direction of Florent Paumelle since 2012, the gallery has maintained a balance between established artists and a new emerging generation, sharing a common conceptual language. This approach makes it possible to present innovative works while respecting the foundations of painting and abstraction that have characterized the Oniris gallery project since it was opened in 1986 by its mother, Yvonne Paumelle.

For almost four decades, the basic philosophy of the Oniris project has remained the same: to regularly exhibit recent work by an evolving group of some thirty artists, including established names such as Vera Molnar, Norman Dilworth, Aurelie Nemours, Geneviève Asse, Christian Bonnefoi, Alain Clément, Philippe Cognée, Jean-Pierre Pincemin and Claude Viallat, as well as others to be rediscovered. Oniris has forged a solid reputation thanks to the successive presentations of its artists, to whom the gallery regularly invites.

Présentation de l'artiste en focus

For Drawing Now 2026, Galerie Oniris presents a booth dedicated to two major figures on the French art scene: Philippe Cognée (focus) and Jean-Pierre Pincemin. This project will highlight the dialogue between their respective practices of drawing and working on paper, through a demanding selection of rarely shown works.

Special emphasis will be placed on Philippe Cognée, whose recent works on paper reveal an essential but lesser-known aspect of his work. Collectors will discover the technical and expressive richness of his drawings, produced in charcoal, watercolor, pigment and encaustic on paper - a singular technique he has adapted to the intimacy of drawing.
