Presentation of the gallery
PDX CONTEMPORARY ART is an artist centric gallery, working with accomplished individuals who have a specific way of seeing the world and the skill to make those ideas into art. PDX continues to expand and evolve mounting shows each month while maintaining its mission of facilitating and building artists' careers. PDX is known for consistently programming rigorous and compelling exhibitions and is admired for its independent spirit combined with an attitude of collaboration and dialogue with artists, curators, fellow dealers, publishers, and institutions near and far.
"PDX is the spiritual leader of an emerging art culture on the national scene. The gallery is artistically fearless and nurtures new talent through an intellectual approach that embraces craft and the power of the hand. Like its hometown, PDX is fiercely independent, influenced by the surrounding forces of the nearby mountains, forests and ocean."
— John C Jay, President of Global Creative for Uniqlo and Director of Art J Foundation.
Présentation du projet
PDX CONTEMPORARY ART is pleased to present a booth by D.E. May.
In the artist’s own words, “The math of memory tells me that I have been working on art for the last thirty years. My work stations have been kitchen tables, writing desks, hollow core doors and usually the floor. The exhibition spaces have ranged from galleries and museums to a girlfriend’s apartment.
The inspiration comes from other work sources; a carpenter renovating a garage, two scientists racing for the double-helix. That inspiration holds most true when their work is only half way completed; three quarters of the way there. That is where the inspiration in others work resides for me.
My work day travels amidst a group of series that I refer to as occupations. These occupations vary from map like drawing or architectural maquettes, presented in formal frames, to card board templates made for their own temporal power and beauty; to be stored in drawers, a parlor table and handled by their owners with the freedom of frequency which welcomes a personalized patina.”
